Italian Secrets Launches ‘Venturi’s Table’ in Response to a Huge Demand for Cookery Classes Amongst Business People

Italian Secrets, the UK’s only dedicated Corporate Cookery Centre, has expanded due to a huge and growing demand for its cookery classes since starting business in 1995. The centre has reported bookings taken for the classes (which involve hands-on cooking) were up 60% (year on year) in 2006 and are up 300% this month due to companies desperate for an alternative to the perennial boozy, office Christmas party.

A new trend for cookery classes within the corporate market suggests that our working culture is the latest area of UK life to be affected by an obsession with food and voyeuristic cookery programmes. It also suggests that, due to busy lifestyles, long working hours, and meals enjoyed ‘over the keyboard’, our view of cooking has now changed- from a daily normality to an indulgent luxury and appropriate ‘treat’ for staff.

In addition to building a further state-of-the-art kitchen, Anna Venturi and Letizia Tufari who run Italian Secrets, have also been required to change the company’s name to ‘Venturi’s Table’ to reflect a necessary broadening of their menus. With young professionals’ palettes exposed to a growing number of world cuisines, Venturi’s Table will now offer lessons in Sushi making and traditional Indian cuisine alongside its original Italian menu. There has been a consistent level of interest in the cookery classes across all business sectors with bookings taken from advertising companies to law firms. Previous clients have also ranged from FTSE 100 businesses to SMEs and include Apple, Google, Ebay, Coco Cola, Sony, Green & Blacks, Merrill Lynch and GSK, to mention a few.

Anna Venturi commented; “We have experienced a real upsurge in interest for our classes. Not only does this seem reflective of our current fascination with food, it seems they have also filled a gap in the staff incentive market. Again and again, business people have said how pleased they are to do something different from the normal activities dreamt up by an increasingly stale ‘team building’ arena.”

Jamie of Deutsche Bank who attended one of the cookery experiences said; “I never get the chance to cook during the week so it was great to prepare a delicious three course meal. The fantastic food and homely kitchen made sure that everyone relaxed very quickly. We all agreed that this was the best team-building exercise we had ever done and not just because we got to see our boss with flour in his hair.”

The new Venturi’s Table, in trendy Wandsworth Town, has two, large, state-of-the-art kitchens to cater for bookings of up to 60 business people. Modelled in the style of a stunning Chelsea home, the facilities are equipped to showcase the best of Italian, Japanese and Thai cooking. Cooking experiences last four hours with an emphasis on fun, relaxation and enjoyment. Rather than mindless amounts of chopping or arm-straining mixing participants are invited to ‘sip and stir,’ enjoying fine wines as they cook in a stylish environment. At the end of their session, hungry, fully relaxed teams sit down together and are served the gourmet food they have created themselves.
